Logistics often is inherent to international transport of goods. Therefore, chances are that you as a logistics service provider often come into contact with the customs. Then, a smooth declaration process is of great importance for the efficiency of your logistic processes. But with that many different flows and declaration procedures, how can you fulfil your activities as smoothly as possible?
In this first blog about customs flows, we map out the AGS flow and help you handle your declaration when declined.
AGS: how does it work exactly?
When you as a European logistics service provider are about to import or export, then you can’t escape from decelerating via the AGS. But how does this declaration process work? And how can you prevent or solve errors in the declaration. We walk you through the AGS flow.
AGS Import
When you receive goods from outside of the European Union, and you are about to bring these into the free traffic, you must complete the AGS import declaration. For these goods, you will then pay (possibly immediately) the import duties. In the image below you learn what this process looks like.
AGS Export
When you are shipping goods to countries outside of the European Union, or you are shipping goods from the customs entrepot, the declaration is done via AGS Export. This flow is mapped out in the image below.
Declaration declined, now what?
Even with all the available knowledge in your organization, it is possible your declaration is denied. This can be caused by incorrect codes on the goods, the wrong type of declaration (for example EU-A instead of CO-A), or the lack of values on the document lines in your software solution. When you receive a DMSREJ (a declined declaration), you can find the cause in 3PL Dynamics.
Errors in 3PL Dynamics (h3)
In the column ‘Declaration Errors’ of the fact box, you can track what code is causing the error. With this information, you can target your search for the solution. You often see multiple Rubric Codes, and it makes sense if you don’t know where to start. To make it easier, a field is added which describes the error code.
Is your declaration declined? Then you can contact the National Help Desk Customs (NHD). They are the point of contact when an declaration is declined and you request insights.
Sending your declaration
When you have solved any errors, you can resend your documents to customs to complete a successful declaration. Do you need help with your customs flows? Mail to request@boltrics.nl.
