Van Kommer streamlines all logistics processes in one integrated solution

At the end of this year, Van Kommer will implement a new software package to streamline all logistics processes in one integrated solution. Van Kommer, specialized in logistics services for animal nutrition, works with various management systems for their transport, warehousing and forwarding activities. The logistics service provider from Barneveld exists 65 years old this year and, with an eye on the future, wishes to replace the various packages with one integrated and future-proof solution. Moreover, there was a need for a new software solution to gain better insight into the logistics processes in order to serve customers even better. To achieve this, the family business opts for the branch standard of Boltrics, specifically developed for logistics service providers and based on the latest Microsoft technology.
More than just from A to B
Every day, all kinds of goods are transported by Van Kommer in groupage with covered wagons, from provisions to hazardous substances throughout Germany and the Benelux. Van Kommer is particularly active in the silo transport of goods for the animal feed industry and food industry. Silo transport includes the transport of bulk goods, in a silo trailer or hopper, whether or not in ADR version. These hopper trailers can transport up to seven products at the same time.
In addition, logistics is for Van Kommer not only transport from A to B. The logistics service provider also has extensive storage and transhipment options with up to 25,000 m2 of storage capacity. Van Kommer also has in-house equipment for palletizing and repacking goods to Big-Bags or silo trucks. To accommodate all these logistics services in a digital environment, Van Kommer was looking for a suitable software solution. The choice fell on the software system of Boltrics, with the result: one integrated standard for all transport, warehouse and customs activities.
Continue to grow in the future
“As our current TMS is coming to an end, we started looking for a more modern application in which we can streamline all our warehousing and transport activities. We have opted for the branch standard of Boltrics”, says Edwin te Kampe, Operational Manager at Van Kommer. “Thanks to the input of more than 180 logistics service providers and the always up-to-date guarantee, we are assured with this solution that we can continue to grow in the future”
With the new solution, administrative actions are minimized and the competitive position of Van Kommer is strengthened. In addition to the primary transport and warehouse activities, they can accurately record the VAL process in the WMS, so that the effect of repacking goods on stock is always visible. And thanks to the integration with external on-board computer systems and the web portal, the logistics service provider not only has access to all relevant information about their shipments themselves, but their customers as well. Such as 24/7 insight into the latest status of the shipment as well as the departure and the (expected) arrival time. “The TMS, WMS and Customs & Integrations software will be implemented in three phases, according to Boltrics’ fixed time & fixed price principle. We are looking forward to working with the functionalities in one database, instead of having to manage all processes in different systems.”
